Delbert Hicks was born to Alex and Eddie Mae Hicks; he was one of fourteen children born to this union.
He is a native of Toledo OH. He was educated in the public school system, graduating from Macomber Vocational High School for boys. Architectural, Engineering was his specialized field of study. After graduating from Macomber, he enrolled in the University of Toledo and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
Pastor Hicks began his walk with God at an early age and was appointed to the office of Deacon at the New Home Missionary Baptist Church in Toledo OH under the leadership of Pastor Dennis Byrd the founder of House of Byrd Music Publishing Co. Pastor Hicks served as Minister of Music showcased his music writing skills, and wrote original music for a collaborative project: "Lord I thank you so Much" Album His single titled "God will take care of you" was the number two song on the double album release. He was later called to the Word Ministry and licensed and Ordained to preach by the Rev. Dennis J. Byrd Pastor of New Home Missionary Baptist (at that time) where he was a faithful member for his entire Christian walk until his relaoction to the Shenandoah Valley.
In the Fall of 1989 He and his family relocated to the Winchester VA, area, where he continued his Corporate career at the Lear Corp. in Strasburg VA, as a Development Engineer. After some time he was promoted to Manager of the Corporate Process Engineering Group, reporting out of Dearborn MI. Shortly after relocation he joined the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, and attended as an associate minister, and served as musician under the leadership of Rev. John Scott and later under Pastor Gilbert M. Mack Jr. In 2001 he was called to position of interim Pastor at Zion Baptist Church, in Berryville VA, and installed as Pastor in Jan 2003, where he still serves today. During his Pastorate tenor, Zion has grown in many different areas; Church Membership/Discipleship; Outreach; Youth, Men’s, and Women’s ministries. Zion has hosted Women’s conferences under the Leadership of First Lady Cecilia Hicks. Bible Study and Sunday school attendance has increased because Pastor Hicks is a believer in teaching, and preaching the word of God with power and conviction.
Pastor Hicks has a Calling and deep passion for children and young people, which keeps him young at heart. He serves as a mentor for the many Conservatory students, who attend Zion throughout the school year from Shenandoah University, and he has allowed them to use, and hone their gifts in the worship experience; he has spoken at many events held by the students on campus.
Rev. Hicks is married to Cecilia M. Hicks also of Toledo OH, his bride of 25 years. They’ve been blessed with 2 wonderful sons; Evonn Delbert and Ethan Alex. who are active in Ministries at Zion as well as spreading the gospel to their generation.
Rev. Hicks favorite scripture is Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
